Thymer Alpha is (Invite only) Open
With the release of Thymer, albeit with limited invite-only access at this stage, it can only mean one thing: the start of Thymer Weekly. You may remember me from such publications as PKM Weekly.
Christmas definitely came early, as just before we were all thinking about tucking into the turkey, the devs announced Thymer Alpha and started issuing invites.
Keep an eye on your Twitter DMs and also make sure you follow @wcools and @jdvhouten. For completeness, the sign-up to the website is for Beta testing, and not Alpha testing.
Be sure to also check out the unofficial Discord. The devs are active in Discord and posting responses as well as occasional invite codes. There is already a lot of chatter about the bugs users are encountering and what other features they would like to see while the devs get set up with the official communication channels.
I have been using Thymer for a few days now and am still just scratching the surface. In terms of what I am liking a lot so far:
@wcools and @jdvhouten really cooked up something special.
Outline and full form writing combine perfectly (few new keyboard shortcuts to learn, but this is a 1st world problem).
Works flawlessly offline and online out of the box.
Web browser only for now. Desktop apps (and mobile) are being worked on. Although you can use a mobile browser to see and edit notes on the go.
Codeblocks - simple and easy to use. It would be nice to have the triple backticks option to insert.
The app is fast. No lag when loading, typing or scrolling through pages.
Spinning up different views of your notes and data is a breeze.
Tasks and todos are built in, and you can easily see the upcoming ones in the journal.
Devs are very active online. Official blog/community planned
The app is a joy to use and write in
All in all, wow is all I can say from my initial few days of usage.
There are of course a few things that need fixing (it is in Alpha after all) and tweaking and a bit of a mindshift change is needed for certain features when compared to using other PKM apps, but this adds to the fun of it all.
I am very excited to see where Thymer goes, so much so that I have set up a newsletter / blog to capture what’s new in more detail.
To differentiate a little from PKM Weekly, I will also include thoughts on my use of Thymer at more regular intervals, as well as weekly updates on what’s new.
